Totally agree. It’s very important to criticize team members but do it in a way where it’s not insulting or disrespectful.

Absolutely, Safwaan. If the criticism isn't ready or able to be processed or acted upon, then a leader's obligation is to discover better ways to carry that critique forward.

That's not just about remaining diplomatic... it is about helping to make people and situations better.

I'd like to know when a reprimand is "acceptable" in your opinion? I am witnessing that the norm is now that it is never appropriate no matter how bad the behavior or how negative the outcomes are on others. Coddling has reached a level so high that no group is capable of personal accountability. I have witnessed this in all leadership in my community - it is our downfall, it is why society is falling apart. No integrity, no consequence for talking but not following through and making good on responsibilities that affect others. Teachers are not creating literate students by grade 3 they are woefully behind, Police are not addressing root causes of crime and lack compassion interacting with community because all they see are criminals not people, Medical service providers do not provide healthcare, Insurance providers deny care that would actually heal and incentivize treatments that keep sickness going and people paying endlessly on prescription drugs. Our government bureaucrats facilitate poison in our environment from food production in the name of commerce and economy - life is not sacred. No matter how large the mountain of evidence from experts is our waterboard and dept of pesticide regulation, State EPA, USDA, and County Board all purposefully create so-called management processes instead of enforcing the many laws designed to protect us from these harms! Non-profits are also inactive, they go to endless meetings and participate in these deceptive processes designed to distract anyone from taking legal steps. Where did our morality go? We spared the rod.

Hi Alicia.

We are going to, as typical for us, keep the conversations we engage with focused on leadership behaviors, leadership frameworks, leadership application.

It seems you might have an earnest question on leadership nestled into your above comment, but I think we need you to restate it a bit more concisely in order to know how to answer.

If the question is just about giving a reprimand... we still need a little bit more focused context to give e helpful reply.

What behavior rises to the level that reprimand is acceptable?

I was describing the fact that, in my county, no one is able to take any amount of reprimand regardless of if lives are being taken away because if their decisions!

Colleges and corporate culture are cintributimg to this pervasive weakness in character.
