How do normally rational and kind people come to treat people they don’t know very well with such animosity and cruelness? The answer lies in something called deindividuation, and we can learn a great deal about conflict by understanding its subversive impact on how we think.
We even do this on the road as we think of individuals as the vehicles they drive. That deindivualizes a person in the same way and justifies my tendency to fly into an easy rage.
Great post but I don’t think it has anything to do with a fixed mindset and just more how our brains create and use mental shortcuts based on our personal experience and life histories.
