Instinctively, leaders know what they stand for in life. Even without recognizing they are doing so, leaders base decisions on their values all of the time. But there is a marked difference between knowing your values and becoming a value-driven leader. In our experience, all the best leaders are value-driven in everything they do.
If you have never explicitly codified them, what is the best way to get clear on your values?
Consider asking yourself a few questions and see what might surface.
What makes you angry?
What give you a sense of injustice?
What are lines that you have observed that you just won't cross?
What are lines that you felt deeply about when you chose to cross them anyways?
What are some aspirational values you see and respect in others?
The best leaders don’t pay simple lip service to their chosen values.
They take time to know themselves deeply, and they understand the core values that drive them.
