Gratitude is important. I believe it is the main factor when two people undergo similar experiences, but come out of it polar opposites.

Professor Martin Seligman of University of Pennsylvania, has written a lot on positive psychology (he's called the father of it;). I recommend his work, if interested in practicing behavior that leads to a better life.

We also must keep in mind, there's optimism bias. While gratitude (in my experience) can aid us in keeping our sanity. We would be wise to develop the strength and resilience to confront the hard truths too.

Hence, it's all about balance;)
