I've thought through both problems and opportunities, and can say that the opportunity perspective helps one stay ahead of most, but not all problems; problems then tend to be more unexpected due to sudden changes. Projected and expected changes lead to opportunities.
I believe in defining problems as opportunities. I think it was Einstein who said: "In the midst of every crisis, lies great opportunity". It is also analogous to seeing the glass half empty or half full. Perspective is key.
