The most extraordinary leaders think somewhat differently about leadership and relationships. They aren’t contrarian or divergent just for the sake of standing out, but they see the qualities of great leadership from a different point of view. Leadership, for them, is always about the people they lead and not about themselves. There’s much we can learn from them in our journey to become better leaders.
There is much wisdom to be had in listening to one's team, especially on the frontlines.
In the last year; I left a desk position for an entry-level position with a wholesale retailer. The men and women on my team have given/shown me gems of wisdom an office job simply can't. I am now able to apply these lessons to my professional, personal, and academic life. This allows me to bring value to my posts, peers, and family.
In this day and age, people seem/are taught to focus on their "brand." In doing so they often become disingenuous, delusional, and/or selfish.
One of the many lessons the Tao Te Ching teaches is that one can build a brand OR discover one's true self. We can't do both...
