Creating open and candid discussion is never easy, especially in large groups. People feel inhibited for a host of reasons, including the fear that what they say may be used against them in the future. That’s why many leaders establish discussion ground rules that work to encourage a more open and honest exchange of ideas.
Camera-On for 1:1's and Team Meetings. All our virtual training is Camera On too. During our Leadership Forums, we remind everyone of the ground rules right at the beginning. My team and I will follow-up with people we suspect are multi-tasking after a forum and politely ask them that next time - they defer that other work until after the call. It really helps.
Similar to the “No Cell Phone” rule, we encourage a “Be Here Now” rule.
In what ways do you make “Be Here Now” objectively observed? No cell phones certainly flows out of that… what else?
