I’ve noticed it in our senior leaders. They always see the glass as half full.

They have to.

Imagine a world where our leaders always thought the worst. That would permeate through an organisation and teams would quickly lose the will to carry on.

We need leaders who are positive.

What we don’t need is leaders who take it too far. If something is difficult or substandard we need them to tell it as it is sometimes. Otherwise they lose grip on reality and they lose credibility.

So it’s very much about balance.

Have you ever met a great, loved leader who is naturally negative or pessimistic?

I'd think it's a pretty rare trait to see in someone who is admired.
