Caring about people and how they develop is what good leaders do, but sometimes caring too much can be cruel. Leaders care too much when they know team members are not up to the job but keep them in the role anyway.
A leader, especially a caring leader as described, would go one step further before "the door," and assist the "underperformer" use Google to find the tools via searching for "how to find a job" or "...profession" that matches my skills(personality). Now imagine when the word gets around about that. That's a leader others will follow.
